Since the management courses in IITs are only for engineering and Post Graduate Science students, the management courses are specially designed for them. This entrance test includes multiple type questions and also has negative marking for each wrong answer.

Though IITs are primarily premium engineering institutes but still due to brand name and credibility the management courses in IITs are also considered to be prestigious.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for admission through JMET a candidate should have an engineering degree or a Master's degree in Science with at least 60% aggregate, though there is a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST candidates. Candidates in their final year can also apply for provisional admission subject to the completion of their qualifying degree.
Examination Format/Pattern
JMET exam is of 3 hours duration having 120 objective questions in all from Verbal Communication, Logical reasoning, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. A candidate is required to perform well in all the four sections to be considered for admission. There is a negative marking of 1/4th marks in case of an incorrect answer.

The entrance examination is conducted in order to select deserving candidates for admission into post graduate degree level two years of full-time management course. JMET is regarded as one of the highly competitive entrance examinations of its field. Apart from IITs, other management institutions also accept the scores of JMET. JMET 2011 is scheduled to be held on December 12, 2010.
