Dibrugarh University (DU) was established in 1965 under the provisions of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965 enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly.

Dibrugarh University is a teaching-cum-affiliating university. It is situated at Rajabheta, Dibrugarh in the easternmost corner of Assam. The university is recognized by the UGC, and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, NAAC, with B Grade. Dibrugarh University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
Dibrugarh University offers programs in diverse disciplines. It covers conventional undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has now included new age professional courses. The Degrees conferred by this university are recognised by all the universities in India and abroad on reciprocal basis.
