Delhi University was established in 1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential university by an Act of Central Legislative Assembly. There are only 3 colleges affliliated to it in the begining

Over the last several decades, the University has grown into one of the largest universities in the country. Today it is among the largest and most prestigious universities of the country having wide range of faculties and around 80 colleges spread all over the city. The university has been ranked one of the best universities in the world.
The University offers a colossal 447 different courses in fields like Commerce, Sciences, Arts, International Languages, Engineering etc at the undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil, Ph.D., diploma and certificate levels and also offers distance learning through Delhi University School of Open Learning (DUSOL).
