Popularly known as GJU, Guru Jambheshwar University was established in 1995 by an Act of the Legislature of the State of Haryana. The university was named after the Guru Jambheshwar Ji Maharaj, a saint environmentalist of 15th century.

The University is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi.It is also UGC recognized.
