Earlier known as Regional Engineering College (REC), National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra was established in the year 1962 as a joint enterprise of the State and Central Governments.

Recognized by UGC, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra has accorded the status of Deemed University in 2002.
The Institute offers 4-year B.Tech. Degree Programs and 2-year M.Tech Programs in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Computer Engineering. Admission of Candidates are based on their performance in AIEEE conducted by CBSE.
