Popularly Known as SMVDU, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was established in 1999 as a residential and technical university under an act of J&K Legislature.

The university was established to offer scientific and technical education of the highest standards. The University is located at Katra in the Udhampur District of Jammu and Kashmir. SMVDU is member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The University offers undergraduate/postgraduate courses in Engineering and Sciences as well as in Management and Arts beside Ph.D. Admission to the University programs are on the basis of AIEEE ranking, CAT/ MAT scores, written tests, interviews and group discussions.
