About National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

Formerly known as Regional Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (NIT) was established in 1960 by the Government of India and the Government of Bihar as a joint venture. The Institute was established with the objective to generate technical graduates of highest standards who could provide technological leadership to the region.

Regional Institute of Technology was upgraded to National Institute of Technology on 27th December, 2002, with the status of a Deemed University and is now totally under the control of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, New Delhi since 1st April, 2003. The university is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and recognised by UGC.

The institute has several departments in various disciplines of engineering and the pure sciences, with nearly 100 laboratories organized on a unique pattern of functioning. The objective of the NIT is to make a continuous and significant contribution towards

building of qualified manpower in the relevant areas of engineering and science disciplines for the betterment and welfare of mankind.
