Bangalore University was established in July 1964. The University is established as an offshoot of the University of Mysore for the improvement of Education in the region of Bangalore.

The main campus transferred to the Jnana Bharathi Campus in 1973 where most of the University Administration takes place. The University has about 600 colleges affiliated to it til April 2007. The University is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU). This University is recognised by UGC. This University has grade A by NAAC Rating. This University is located in the Bangalore City of Karnataka.
