The University is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Now a days, it has 58 Post Graduate teaching departments and 209 affiliated colleges, serving about 300,000 students.

The University conducts about 658 examination in a year. The jurisdiction of the University is now limited to the State of West Bengal excluding the areas which are included within the local limits of jurisdiction of any other university established by the law within West Bengal. The University is located in Kolkata city in West Bengal.
