The iit roorkee formerly known as the University of Roorkee and was formed in 1847 and was also known Thomason College of Civil Engineering (1853-1948) and is one of the sixteen institutes that are formed in the country. Further as part of the iit roorkee entrance exam that are found here are based on the different levels of examination that are done for the series of courses that are found in the undergraduate, postgraduate and the doctoral programs. There is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for direct admission for the M.E, M. Tech direct Ph.D. Along with it there is also the presence of the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) and Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED). However the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is no longer being accepted here.
As part of the iit roorkee distance education there are two section that are found here one is the Continuing education center and the other is the Technical education-Distance Education.

The Indian Institute of Technology campus is well spread and located in the NH 58, as the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India.
