Scholarships

Scholarship in India is an incentive as well as encouragement to meritorious students. A special importance is given to studies in abroad where also the innovative methods are used and substantial developments have taken place in the field of education.

All the details of scholarships would be available in the advertisement and the advertisement of scholarship should be read suspiciously before submitting the application to this Ministry.
The scholarships are awarded on merit on all India basis. The selection is made through a Selection Committee constituted of subject experts. Most of the scholarships are for doctoral and post-doctoral studies. Scholarships in India and aboard are also available at post-graduate level for language study, Fine Arts and some other subjects as being notified in each advertisement.

Scholarship Applications



A scholarship is an award of access to an institution or a financial aid award for an individual for the purposes of furthering their education. A scholarship may be awarded based on range of criteria, which generally reflect the views or purposes of the donor or founder of the award.



The procedure for applying for various scholarships differs from country to country. The fellowships amount also differs according to the scope of organization and grade of the study or the trust that offers it. It is essential for the students to go through the details of the scholarships in India and abroad before accepting them as several of them may come with some strings attached. One must accept the scholarships available in India and abroad only when the terms and conditions, if any, are acceptable.

Criteria for scholarship application
  • The applicant's doctoral or post-doctoral research is in one of the selected fields for the year in which the application is being made.
  • For doctoral students applying: The research proposal should be officially approved by the university department in which he/she is studying.

The required documents:
  • Application form.
  • Full Curriculum Vitae.
  • A description of the applicant's doctoral or post-doctoral research project and a list of applicant's publications.
  • Three separate, official letters of recommendation by recognized scholars in the field, one of which is the doctoral/post-doctoral supervisor.
